Edifier W320TN Adaptive Active Noise Cancelling Earbuds Review

True Wireless Earbuds with Gaming Mode

W320TN

Most mornings, unless the weather is bad, I walk about 3 miles – half of that up the canal path where I don’t see another soul. Depending on how fast I decide to walk, it is about a 50-60 minutes casual stroll. Whilst walking along I like to listen to music from my phone. I’m not a teenager and don’t just have the music pumping out of a tiny phone speaker, annoying others. I prefer to use wireless earbuds. True wireless earbuds are perfect for my daily walks – no wires anywhere getting in the way, good battery life and excellent sound. I am a big fan of Edifier and their speakers, headphones and earbuds and was happy when they sent me their newest addition to their true wireless earbuds range – the W320TN (which even have AI).

The Edifier W320TN Adaptive Active Noise Cancelling Earbuds are in a glossy grey colour, which I love – something different to the usual to the usual black or white offerings. They have a max combined battery life of 22.5 hours, which relates to between 3.5 to 5.5 hours constant usage from a single charge depending on settings you use (more about battery life later). They use Bluetooth v5.3, are dust and splashproof and feature USB-C charging.

Edifier’s W320TN Adaptive Active Noise Cancelling True Wireless Earbuds are a simple yet elegant design, as we have come to expect from Edifier. They are available in grey or white. They have an open fit design (have no silicone eartips), which for me, create a much more secure and snug fit. They also feature a stem with pinch points to control functions. The earbuds and charging case have a combined weight of just 51g, perfect for keeping in your pocket and lightweight and comfortable when wearing the earbuds.

The earbuds are housed in a small protective glossy case, they glossy grey looks excellent. But the case is more than just a storage case, it is also the charging dock; it has its own rechargeable battery so that you can charge the earbuds when not using them, wherever you are. The case features a hinged lid with magnetic closing which does an excellent job of keeping the case closed but is still easy to open when needed. Each earbud has their own space within the case where each individual earbud slots into keeping it securely in place.

As the case is also the charging station, it has a USB-C connection on the base of the case, just plug it a USB-C charger (a cable is supplied, but no charger – which I prefer as it is excellent for reducing waste as we all have several of these at home) and the case/earbuds will start charging – a full charge takes 1 hour to charge the earbuds, 1.5 hours for the case). A full charge will give you a playback time of up to 3.5 hours (earbuds) + 14 hours (charging case) with ANC on and up to 5.5 hours (earbuds) + 22 hours (charging case) with ANC off, depending on volume and other settings you use. It total, you can have up to 27.5 hours playback time. Each time you place the earbuds back in the case they will start to charge. And if you are in a hurry, a quick 10 minutes charge will give you up to 1 hours use (again depending on the settings that you use). The case also features a small LED indicator light (pairing, charging, low battery etc.) on the front of the case and a pairing button on the rear.

Pairing is simple and the earbuds can be paired with two different devices so that you don’t have to unpair from your phone to use on your tablet or laptop. Pairing is simple and fast. On first use, out of the case they will be already in pairing mode so just follow your normal pairing routine. If you need to put them back into pairing mode, just press and hold the pairing button (can be found on the rear of the case) for three seconds.

The earbuds are also packed with features:

  • Up to 27.5 combined battery life
  • Open-fit design
  • Adaptive active noise cancellation
  • Hi-Resolution and Hi-Res Wireless certificated
  • AI adaptive environmental noise cancellation
  • Wearing detection
  • Multiple personalisation’s via the Edifier Connect APP

The earbuds feature AI Adaptive Active Noise Cancelling for better sound and ultra-clear calls. When turned on it uses more battery power, but it is excellent at cancelling out external noises. Whilst on, it uses different algorithms to utilise “real-time detection to make adaptive adjustments to match the appropriate bass compensation coefficient to reduce the loss of sound quality caused by air leakage during wearing, presenting a unique and excellent sound effect”.

The sound quality of the earbuds is excellent (and I love the soothing sounds that you can access through the app such as peaceful countryside, relaxing piano with white noise and, my favourite, Thunder Rain – listening to rain and thunder I find quite relaxing). The EQ can be controlled through the Edifier app. Call quality is ultra-clear, especially with the ANC on and the earbuds 6 microphones.

The W320TN adopts a high airtightness independent sound chamber design, equipped with Edifier’s new 13mm multi-layer composite diaphragm unit, and linked with a low-frequency inverted phase structure of the rear chamber; 40kHz wide bandwidth, 990kbps high-definition resolution, full details, dynamic, and powerful reproduction of HIFI original sound.

Controlling the earbuds is simple and different. I am used to touching an earbud to control functions and often would change settings or tracks accidentally when readjusting an earbud. With the W320TN I have had no accidental touches as they use a pinch system. To control the earbuds you just pinch the base of the stem on the earbuds (the number of times depends on what function you control – e.g. when listening to music, if you pinch twice you skip to the next track). You can easily feel where the pinch point is and it is so easy to use, I find it much better than the tap/touch system on other earbuds I have used. And you can even customise the pinch settings within the app (including pressure sensitivity).

I love that the earbuds feature wearing detection. Whilst listening to your favourite music, if you remove an earbud it will pause the track that you are listening to. Once you pop the earbud back in it will resuming playing. Never miss your favourite song again.

The Bluetooth connection is a very reliable wireless connection – I have been using them every day and they haven’t lost connection or dropped out at all in the time I have been using them.

The earbuds also have an IP54 splashproof rating, protecting them against dust, rain and sweat. You can exercise without the worry of them getting damaged. Just remember to dry them before putting them in the charging case.

And for the gamers out there, you can put the earbuds into gaming mode. This gives optimized audio transmission and 80ms ultra low latency, giving gamers a vastly improved visual to sound experience, no lag between audio and what happens on the screen.

Overall, I love the Edifier W320TN Adaptive Active Noise Cancelling Earbuds. Although some may see the colour options of grey or white boring, I love the glossy grey – it makes them that bit different from all the other wireless earbuds. They sound excellent with good bass and EQ settings for pop, classical and rock. They are extremely comfortable to wear with less pressure in the ear, especially over extended use, and the snug fit is excellent.

The ANC is superb, works great and adapts very well. The Ambient mode still allows the quality of the music to come through whilst still being able to hear train announcements and crossing signals.

Taking phone calls is simple and at times is much better than not using the earbuds as the noise cancellation is superb. The voices come across crystal clear (unless the other person has bad reception).

The battery life is good, and the earbuds charge whilst in the case when you are not using them. The case and earbuds are so light that keeping them in your pocket isn’t an issue.

And I love the pinch system to change tracks, answer calls etc. It is so easy to use and easy to customise. It stops those accidental touches.

Edifier’s W320TN earbuds are a great sounding, lightweight and comfortable pair of wireless earbuds.
