With the summer holidays approaching, those long SIX WEEKS of having to entertain the kids and hearing those immortal words “I’M BORED!”, now’s the time to start looking for things to entertain the kids at home or even on holiday. And board games are always a winner, especially when they come in a travel size. One of our favourite games to play as a family has always been trivia / quiz games, but most are either for adults (too hard for the kids) or for kids (too easy or obscure for the adults). But then we found Family Quiz Night from Cheatwell Games which is for Kids and Adults – it has questions for both and evens the playing field. And now it’s available in a smaller version as Travel Family Quiz Night – the same great game in a travel sized box.
Family Quiz Night is an all-inclusive trivia board game suitable for families. It is a quiz game for 2-4 players or teams, age 8+. But the best thing about it is that kids can play against the adults as there are two different questions on each card – one for adults and one for kids. To make it more inclusive for kids, teens and adults, kids are asked the kids question complete with multiple choice options, older children/teens have the same question but without the multiple choice options and adults will get a completely different and more challenging question (without multiple choice options). This makes it a trivia game that the whole family can play together while levelling the playing field for different age ranges. Players answer questions from 8 different topics and must work their way from the start point at the edge on the board inwards to the centre.
In the box:
- 8 Decks of Questions Cards (432 Questions)
- Playing Board
- 4 Playing Tokens
- Die
- Rules
Setting up the game is very simple. Unfold the playing board and place it in the centre of table so that all players can see it easily and are able to reach their playing piece. The board is quite small (approximately 20×15cm) but space on it has been maximised to get as many question spaces on the board as possible by working from the outside in towards the centre finish space. Each player or team chooses one of the coloured playing tokens and places it on the start space. The question cards need to be separated into their categories and shuffled, placing the question side down on the table in category piles (category name facing up) – each category related to spaces on the board.
Question Categories:
- T.V.
- Movies
- Geography
- History
- Music
- People
- Science & Nature
- Pot Luck
To play, the kids team or the youngest player starts by rolling the dice (it is six-sided but only has the numbers 1,2 and 3) and moving their playing token accordingly. The space they finally land on relates to the category question they will be asked. The player to their left of the other team will take a question from that deck and ask the relevant question (the top question is for kids, the bottom for adults). If asking a kids question, younger children will be given 3 multiple choice options to select their answer from, older children and teenagers won’t have the multiple choice options. If the question is answered correctly, they get to throw the dice again and move forward that number of spaces (this will be the category question for their next turn). If answered incorrectly they stay where they are. Play then moves to the next player or team. The first player of team to move their playing token to the finish space in the centre of the board is the winner.

Overall, we think Travel Family Quiz Night is an excellent quiz game, especially as all family members can join in and it doesn’t mean the person with the most knowledge is always going to win. We love having two sets of questions on each card, with different ways to answer depending on the ages of the players.
With a good variety of questions, we thought that they were pitched at the correct level for most average players – although not too easy or hard with kids questions such as (Pot Luck) “In Harry Potter, which bird is the emblem of Ravenclaw House?” or (Geography) “Which country has the largest population in the world?” or adults questions such as (Pot Luck) “Which Italian dish is Garfield’s favourite food?” or (Geography) “Central America consists of how many countries?”
For us, Travel Family Quiz Night is a fun all-inclusive family trivia game with an excellent mix of questions with varying degrees of difficulty. We love that the box is small and easy to transport so can be taken and played anywhere (measures approx. 14x11x5cm). And it a versatile game as it can be played as adult vs adult, child vs child, children vs adults or child and adult vs child and adult. With 432 questions nobody will get bored in a hurry.
Travel Family Quiz Night is a fun all-inclusive family trivia game for kids, adults and families and is perfect for playing at home, away, and on your travels. A superb travel quiz game.
