Food, glorious food. We all need it to survive, but sitting down to eat your lunch and finding that your pasta has gone cold isn’t great. That’s where an insulated food jar comes in handy as they can help keep hot/cold foods at the correct temperature for several hours. The b.box Insulated Food Jar can keep warm food warm for up to 5 hours and cold food chilled for up to 7 hours.
The b.box Insulated Food Jar has a 335ml (11 fl oz) capacity. It features a stainless steel jar with a silicone non-slip base, handles (similar to a sippy cup) and a leakproof lid. It is suitable for children age 6 months plus, with easy opening and large neck and it grows with the children to adult as the bumper and handles can be removed as and when they are no longer required. The jar is vacuum sealed, featuring an easy to open leakproof lid with a stop-lock mechanism so that heavy-handed adults can’t over-tighten it. It stands approx. 15.5cm tall and 14cm wide (with the handles on). It also comes with a spork that slots upright into the bumper. It is available in a good range of colour options. It is dishwasher safe (on the top rack). Because it has a stainless steel body it can’t be used in a microwave.
While the main purpose of this jar is to provide good quality insulation to keep foods at perfect temperatures, it has been well designed to make it a cut above the rest. It features a removable silicone bumper on the base which helps to stop slippage, it has two large easy grip handles for little hands and a screw on leakproof lid. The lid cannot be overtightened by adults and in conjunction with the handles the lid can be independently opened by children easily (although not so easily that it can easily come loose when transporting). And as already mentioned, as the kids grow or adults want to use it, the handles and bumper are easily removed.
When taking off the lid, the jar has a nice large opening which makes it easy to fill and to eat directly from (it even comes with its own spork).
b.box do recommend that when using the jar for warm food, for best performance fill the stainless steel base with hot water (not boiling) for a few minutes to warm it, then pour the water out and fill with delicious hot food.
Cleaning the jar is easy. While children aren’t particularly known for their neatness, especially when eating, they will spill food over the jar. But this jar is quick and easy to clean. You can throw it in the dishwasher on the top rack, but it is best washed by hand. The bumper, handles and lid are all easily removed for thorough cleaning and the jar itself has no nasty crevices where food is going to get stuck and be hard to remove.
Overall, we think that the b.box Insulated Food Jar is excellent quality. It is extremely functional and has a very long life as it grows with the kids into adulthood. It has been very well designed, but more importantly, it actually works and does want it is supposed to do, keeping food items warm/cold for several hours and without leaking.
We love that it can be used from 6 months old into adulthood. The handles twist off once the lid is removed and the silicone bumper just pulls off to make it suitable for older children, teens and adults. It even features a small handle on top to make it easier to carry around.
The colour options are great with some fun variations. We received ours in Indigo Rose (purple and pink), but there are 7 other colour options available on Amazon including Ocean Breeze (blue and green) and Strawberry Shake (pink and peach).
