Flip-Pix! Card Game Review

2-6 Players | Age 6+ | 30 Minutes Playing Time

With the weather quite nice at the moment and heading into summer, what better way to spend the evenings than sitting out in the garden, around the table, enjoying the cooling days heat and enjoying a game or two with the kids. With the days longer now, we have plenty of time to sit outside enjoying the sun and playing some games, spending some quality family time together and being able to #DitchTheScreens.

We have been trying out another game from Cheatwell Games, one of their inexpensive, yet fun, card games that can be played anywhere. Flip-Pix! is a fast-moving twist ‘n’ shout card game for 2-6 players, aged 6 and up. And, let me tell you, it is lots of flipping fun!

Flip-Pix is the twist ‘n’ shout game for all the family! As every card flips you try to match a letter to a picture card held in your hand. Found it? Then shout it out, play your card and… Flip! You start again! A great rapid reaction game for all ages! The pack contains 56 double-sided cards and rules.

Flip-Pix! is a card game that uses observation skills to match cards, but with a twist or two. It isn’t a game like Snap where you have to match two matching picture cards. With Flip-Pix! you need to be able to match a letter on one card to a picture on another card, come up with the word to match the picture and letter (for example: R on one card, a rocket on the picture so you shout out ROCKET). Sounds simple, well there is a twist – the picture cards have 4 pictures and the letter cards have 3 letters so you need to be quick sorting through your cards to find a match.

This is a really easy game to play. Shuffle the cards, placing one card letter side up in the centre of the table. Distribute the remaining cards evenly to all the players (they can’t pick them up yet), picture side up. Any surplus cards go to one side. To start, the card in the centre that is letter side up needs to be flipped so that the picture side is showing and then all players (altogether, there is no turn taking – meaning no arguments over who goes first or why does the youngest always get to start) grab their cards and flip them over to the letter sides and frantically start trying to match a letter to a picture, shouting out when they come up with one and places their card letter side up on top of the picture card. With a new picture card now in the centre of the table and in play, all players then flip their cards and start hunting for a letter that matches any picture on the card. If any player matches to one of the red bonus letters they get to place down an extra card. The winner is the first player to get rid of all their cards.

Overall, this is card and word game that is absolutely lots of flipping fun. Speed and observation skills are key but with constant flipping and picture/letter matching to find a word we found that the youngest players did just as well as their elders. And as you start getting rid of cards it does become a bit easier, although you can’t then always find a match.

This is a game for 2 to 6 players aged 6+. It is a really fast-moving, rapid reaction card/word game that the whole family can enjoy together where a combination of skills are used – fast eyes, fast brain, word and picture matching and speediness.

This small card game has 56 double-sided cards, round cards at that. One side featuring 3 letters with the other side featuring 4 pictures of well-known items (horseshoe, zebra, torch, parrots, headphones etc.). With the cards neatly contained in a box, Flip-Pix! is a game that can be played anywhere and would make an excellent travel game (playing on the train for example or even going caravanning or camping as it takes hardly any space – you could put it in your pocket if you really wanted to).

Flip-Pix! is a flipping fast-moving, fun and frenetic family game that is simple to play. We really enjoyed how quick and easy it was to play. We had lots of laughs along the way and the kids won just as many games as the adults, they weren’t at any disadvantage. An inexpensive game at only £5, but one that with give hours of fun for years to come.

Fast flipping fun!
