OTTY Deluxe Pillow Review

Temperature regulating memory foam pillow

OTTY Deluxe Pillow

Ah sleep! Sleep is something everybody needs. Something most people enjoy and as adults we need between 7-9 hours per night. Sleep is essential to good health and helps enable our brains and bodies to recover from the stresses and strains of everyday living and also helps to organise our thoughts.

Having a good sleep routine (such as going to bed at the same time and getting up at the same time – yes, even on weekends) is good for your health and helps regulate your body clock. A good night’s sleep has many health benefits including a better memory, better concentration and productivity. A bad night’s sleep can make you more tired, irritable, slow you down, give you mood swings and in my case waking up with migraines.

So while sticking to a good sleep routine is a very important factor, so is having a good quality mattress and pillow. I don’t know what I do to my pillows while I’m asleep but I tend to ruin them quite quickly. I have tried several different types of pillows over the years including bounce back pillows (that just seem to lose their bounce back), firm pillows, soft pillows and even one that had a plastic insert to keep the shape. So I was changing my pillow every few months or so (rather than the recommended 18 months) either because they lost their shape or were just really uncomfortable.

Recently my migraines were getting worse, despite the fact that I was taking tablets every morning to try to help prevent migraines, so I was browsing the internet and came across an article that suggested a good pillow could help, not a standard pillow but a gusseted pillow (aka walled pillow). I hadn’t really thought of pillows being vastly differently except for firmness levels. So after reading a bit further it suggested I needed a gusset pillow with a firm level (apparently depending on how you sleep, back or side sleeper, will determine what kind of firmness is best for you. As I was waking up with a lot more migraines, it was worth a try.

OTTY, the mattress people, kindly sent me their Deluxe Pillow to review. This is a gusset (walled) pillow that measures 60x40x12cm, is made from memory foam, it is hypo-allergenic with machine washable covers, is breathable, features a cool airflow system to help regulate temperature while you sleep, is suitable for a side sleeping position, helps better support your head, neck and shoulders and comes with a 3-year guarantee.

When I first opened it, it looked very blocky with its rectangular shape, was quite heavy and my first impressions were that it wasn’t going to fit my pillowcases (it does) and that it was going to be uncomfortable and not conducive to a good night’s sleep (I couldn’t have been more wrong).

From the first night of using the OTTY Deluxe Pillow I noticed the difference over every other pillow that I have used previously (and have slept better every night since).

As mentioned earlier, I ruin pillows – how I do not know, but my head must be particularly heavy while sleeping. The OTTY is keeping its shape just fine (I have now been using it for over a month now) and despite the weight of it, surprisingly comfortable!

As a pillow, it is perfect. It comfortable, supportive and isn’t losing its shape. That said, I didn’t get purely for comfort reasons, I got it to see if it would help with my migraines. While my migraines haven’t gone (I doubt that they ever will after having them for over 30 years) the OTTY pillow is definitely helping with not waking up with them (or a headache) as it is definitely helping to support my neck and shoulder much better. Another thing that helps is that I am not overheating as much while using this pillow (overheating also brings on a migraine for me), this is because it features a system to help cool you down!

It features a Cool Blue Gel within the memory foam. This helps with airflow and helps to regulate your temperature while sleeping. While I do not know how this actually works, I do know that I am much cooler when going to sleep.

The pillow also has a removable padded cover that is machine washable at 40 degrees. This is very easy to remove and put back on. It has a zip rather than a button or snaps. The only downside being that if you do not put a pillowcase on, the zipper can be annoying.

Overall, the OTTY Deluxe Pillow is the best pillow I have used. It is definitely a luxurious, extremely comfortable pillow that is really supportive and for me has lots of health benefits as it is helping with my migraines. At £64.99 it isn’t a cheap pillow, but is definitely worth the cost.

As it is comfortable, supportive and keeps me cooler I am also getting a much better night’s sleep and not waking up as much as I used to during the night.

The OTTY Deluxe Pillow is a top-quality pillow, you really do have to try it to believe it. Sleeping has never been so enjoyable. A pillow that not only provides a great night’s sleep but has great benefits for my health too as the better support is reducing the amount of times that I wake up with a headache, migraine or neck & shoulder pain. Now we just need to get another to stop my partner pinching it!

One thing is to note is that when first using the OTTY Deluxe Pillow you might notice a slight chemical smell (I couldn’t smell it but by partner said she could), this is normal and will disappear.
