Oclean Flow Sonic Electric Toothbrush Review

For cleaner teeth and a brighter whiter smile

Oclean

Looking after your teeth is very important, a daily task that you should spend at least 2 minutes twice a day brushing your teeth to keep them nice and clean, and to help prevent decay. And whilst a manual toothbrush is good, an electric toothbrush is much better as they brush more vigorously and deliver thousands more strokes per minute than a manual toothbrush, getting a much superior and thorough clean.

We use electric toothbrushes in our house and find they do a great job. But everything can be improved on, and we were sent the Oclean Flow Sonic Electric Toothbrush to try out. And there is a vast difference between a standard electric toothbrush and a sonic one.

The Oclean Flow Sonic Electric Toothbrush features:

  • Up to 180 Days (25 weeks) Super Long Battery Life – on standby
  • 5 Brushing Modes
  • 38,000 RPM Motor Cleaning Power
  • Dupont Diamond & W Shape Bristles
  • IPX7 Waterproof
  • 2 Minutes Timer & 30 Seconds Reminder

The Oclean Flow Sonic Electric Toothbrush comes with a control handle, a brush head, USB-C charging cable and a user manual. The toothbrush is in two pieces, the control handle and the brush head – these just slot together very easily. My old electric toothbrush has a round brush head that spins around but the Oclean Flow Sonic Electric Toothbrush has a narrow head like a manual toothbrush that vibrates rather than spins.

The toothbrush takes circa five hours to fully charge. A full charge with give you up to 180 days (just over 25 weeks) on standby. It charges over USB (USB-C) and comes with a charging cable (no charging block but we all have loads of these). The charging port is located on the bottom of the handle and is covered with a sturdy rubber cover that snaps securely in place to keep water out.

This toothbrush comes with 5 modes that you can use it in: Morning Mode, Night Mode, Standard Cleaning Mode, Whitening Mode and Gentle Mode.

  • Morning Mode: this is a less intensive mode than night mode with a lower pressure. It can effectively remove dental plaque caused during sleep. Has a brushing intensity of 3 stars.
  • Night Mode: this is a more intensive mode that the morning mode and deeply removes food residues and dental plaque on the teeth, built up during the day, using a higher pressure. Has a brushing intensity of 5 stars.
  • Standard Cleaning Mode: this is somewhere inbetween morning and night modes. Meets the requirements for routine and ordinary cleaning. Has a brushing intensity of 4 stars.
  • Whitening Mode: this is a deep cleaning mode to effectively remove stains caused by smoking, drinking coffee or tea, etc. Helps gives you a whiter and brighter smile. Has a brushing intensity of 4 stars.
  • Gentle Mode: this is for people that have sensitive gums. Helps to protect the health of the gums whilst fulfilling the fundamental function of removing dental plaque. Has a brushing intensity of 2 stars.

Using the toothbrush is very simple. It is very nice to hold and once you switch it on you can press the button to cycle through the different modes. Once switched off it remembers the last mode used and will start in this mode when you switch it back on again. It has a 38,000 rpm brush speed to help get your teeth really clean.

It also has a built-in 2 minute timer with a 30 second reminder. This means that you can be sure that you are brushing your teeth for the recommend two minutes each time. The 30 second timer is excellent as it ensures that you brush each quadrant for the same amount of time, pausing slightly so you know when to switch to a different quadrant (upper right, lower right, upper left, lower left).

Overall, this is an excellent toothbrush that really does do a brilliant job of cleaning my teeth. If at all possible, my teeth do seem to feel smoother and cleaner than using my standard electric toothbrush.

It does take a bit of getting used to when first using it. There are the different modes to try and see what suits you better – initially the noise and the power of the vibration are quite something, especially if you are used to a manual toothbrush.

After experimenting with the different modes, I have mostly been sticking to morning and night modes and find that these are perfect for keeping my teeth clean and my mouth feeling fresher.

I do like the brush head. I find it reaches my back teeth a lot better (my dentist tells me I have the smallest mouth in the world) as it has a long narrow design rather than a round head.

The battery life is extremely good, and it is very easy to charge. It states that it has up to 180 days between charges. Whilst I haven’t had to charge it since its initial charge yet, please note that the 180 days is standby battery life and the battery life will be reduced depending on factors such as how often you brush your teeth, what modes you use etc.

It does take a bit of getting used to and replacement brush heads can be expensive (I found a pack of 6 on Amazon for £19.99). That said, they really do an excellent job of through cleaning so is worth the cost (especially if you factor in the cost of dental work caused by poor brushing and cleaning).

With Christmas approaching, if you want to give a gift that will keep teeth and gums healthy and promote a naturally whiter smile then I can highly recommend the Oclean Flow Sonic Electric Toothbrush. It is available in different colours as well.
