In an age where technology rules, trying to get kids off their screens and outside to enjoy the fresh air can be a bit of challenge. It’s important that we encourage outdoor activities and sports to get kids moving but we need to find something that is fun and engaging. Most kids love bikes and scooters, and not just any scooter – these days it must be a stunt scooter. Scootering is a great activity for kids, it gets them outside, can help with movement and fitness, gets them from A to B and are lots of fun doing when doing tricks. And we have been trying out the Rampage R1 2023 Complete Stunt Scooter from SkateHut.
But who are SkateHut? From humble beginnings, starting with Heelys, SkateHut was born and now stock skateboards, scooters, skates, bikes, clothing, footwear and just about anything else skate related!
The Rampage R1 2023 Complete Stunt Scooter is an entry level scooter for children aged 7-12 years old (max rider weight of 80kg), perfect for beginners to learn and hone their skills. It comes in two colour options: Black/Neochrome and Neochrome/Black. We received ours in the more colourful Neochrome/Black.

On arrival, the scooter comes in two pieces: handlebar/steering tube and the deck with wheels attached. These two pieces will need putting together but assembly only takes a few minutes. Assembly is straightforward by slotting the steering tube on to the fork headset and tightening (using the Allen Keys provided. In the box there is also a SkateHut stickers pack if you wanted to decorate your new freestyle stunt scooter.
Before any young rider sets off to practice doing bunny hops, tail whips, bar spins, 360’s, fakie’s or whatever other tricks they are trying to emulate from watching YouTube videos, make sure that they have the appropriate safety equipment (and are wearing it): helmet and pad set (you can purchase a protection bundle from SkateHut here). And ensure that they are wearing lace-up shoes (never ride in sandals or barefoot).
With the scooter assembled and the kids wearing essential safety equipment, they are ready to start scooting and learning new tricks.
Like I said, the Rampage R1 2023 Complete Stunt Scooter is an entry level scooter for beginners, so it features a standard-sized deck to stand on, measuring 110mm x 495mm (perfect for beginners to scoot and practice stunts on the street and in skate parks) and larger 110mm super high rebound wheels. The handlebars and deck can rotate a full 360 degrees and the scooter features a rear brake.
Riding the scooter is nice and smooth and it turns very well. The deck has plenty of space to stand on and is textured for excellent grip. The scooter is also equipped with a brake on the back wheel that riders push down on with their foot to slow down or stop the scooter (the brake can get quite hot with constant use so it should not be touched with bare skin).
Overall, the Rampage R1 2023 Complete Stunt Scooter is an excellent stunt scooter for beginners. It is great fun to ride, nice and smooth, and is ideal for trying to perfect those simple stunts like bunny hops and tail whips. It has a good weight to it, not too light or too heavy, whilst still feeling very sturdy, robust and well-constructed, easily able stand up to jumping and bouncing around.
The Neochrome/Black rainbow-looking colouring is excellent and really stands out.
This is an excellent quality scooter to help children get the most out of their outside space, having fun away from screens and enjoying the fresh air. It is quick and easy to assemble and even comes with extra bearings for when they need replacing. And you can even replace the wheels and fit 120mm should you want to.
A great quality entry level stunt scooter that is perfect for learning basic tricks and stunts whilst still giving a smooth ride.
Just remember to make sure the kids are wearing the appropriate safety gear before they start to practice their skills (and maybe watch a few videos on YouTube so they can see how the tricks are safely performed).
