I do a lot of walking, generally my watch shows that I do between 80,000 and 100,000 steps per week (about 40 to 50 miles) and that is only whilst I am wearing my watch. Plus there is my daily tram and bus travel. Whilst I am walking or on the bus or tram I like to listen to music from my phone. Not everybody wants to hear my music so I use wireless earbuds. I am a big fan of Edifier and have tried several of their earbuds, headphones and speakers over the years and have always been very impressed with the build and sound quality, their prices and value for money. For the past couple of weeks or so, I have been trying out their W240TN True Wireless Noise Cancellation Earbuds.
The Edifier W240TN True Wireless Noise Cancellation Earbuds are available in black, white or light blue (mine are white). They have up to 8.5 hours playback time per charge (depending on user settings and surroundings). They also have another 2 full charges in the charging case, giving a total of up to 25.5 hours usage. And they also feature a 10 minute fast charge that gives 2 hours playtime. Enough power to keep you going all day.
In the box:
- Edifier W240TN True Wireless Earbuds
- 4 Sets of Ear Tips (XS/S/M/L)
- Charging Case
- USB-C Charging Cable
- Instructions
Edifier’s W240TN are true wireless earbuds – there are no wires between each earbud and no wires between either earbud to the audio source (phone, tablet, laptop etc.). The only cable needed is to charge the charging case and the case in turn charges the earbuds.
The earbuds are small ear pieces, one for each ear, and come with 4 different sized sets of ear tips. For the best fit you will need to experiment with the different ear tips. You need a secure fit for a comfortable wearing experience and to optimise your listening experience whilst minimising external noises. And you might need to use a different sized ear tip for each ear. Like I said, experiment for what works best with your ears – everybody’s are different.
Before using, you will need to charge the ear buds and their compact charging case. They do not come supplied with a charger as everybody has plenty of these. They do come with a USB-C charging cable so that you can plug into a wall charger or laptop. To charge, make sure both earbuds are in the charging case and close the lid. Plug the USB-C cable into the back of the charging case and into your laptop or wall charging. To fully charge the case and the earbuds takes around 2 hours.
Whilst waiting for charging to complete, take the time to download the Edifier Connect App. This app allows you to configure the earbuds: customisable tuning, power off timings, button presses etc. You can also read the manual on the app – a small booklet does come in the box but it is small and is much easier to read on the screen.
The Edifier W240TN earbuds feature:
- Coaxial dual-dynamic drivers create a wide sound field and immersive listening feeling
- Active noise cancellation with ambient sound mode
- Advanced Bluetooth V5.3
- AI DNN noise cancellation for crystal clear calls
- Long lasting battery life with almost 7 hours playback per charge(ANC ON)
- Physical button design for easy and precise control
- Synchronized gaming experience with game mode on
- IP55 dust and water resistant
Overall, the Edifier W240TN True Wireless Noise Cancellation Earbuds are a very good quality pair of budget-friendly wireless earbuds. Once you fit the ear tips that are nest suited to your ears, they are very comfortable to wear and fit snuggly, they don’t fall out when I’m walking.
They sound great, even at full volume, with good bass and customisable tuning alongside classic and dynamic settings. The active noise cancellation is superb, adapting well and blocking external noises such as traffic and voices, resulting in a much better quality listening experience.
The functions like skipping tracks, pausing and answering calls are extremely easy to operate. The earbuds feature a physical button on each ear bud. Having used Edifier earbuds with touch control pinch points and push button operations I think I prefer the button push on these. There are no accidental touches when readjusting in the each and the feeling of actually pressing something and feeling the response is reassuring that you have done it. The response time is instant and work fantastically well.
Receiving and making phone calls is simple and at times is much better than not using the earbuds as the noise cancellation is superb, except maybe when extremely windy. The voices come across crystal clear (unless the person calling has bad reception). The earbuds utilise AI DNN noise cancellation to create a crystal clear call experience.
The battery life is good with up to 8.5 hours use (depending on user settings and configuration, volume levels etc.) before needing a charge. And up to 25.5 hours with extra charging from the case. The earbuds charge when popped back into their case when you are not using them, so the battery is always topped up. The case and earbuds are so light that keeping them in your pocket isn’t an issue.
I love the Edifier W240TN wireless earbuds, they aren’t my favourite Edifier earbuds (I prefer one with a stem) but I think that they are fantastic all round budget earbuds. They sound great, are lightweight and comfortable to wear and easy to control although I do miss the wearing detection feature.
If you are looking for budget-friendly wireless earbuds without having cheap quality or sound and that are comfortable to wear, the W240TN are a great pair. They sound great and are comfortable and the button press to control functions is excellent. There don’t have wearing detection that pauses tracks when one is removed from the ear, but the price reflects this.
