Writing in a diary or journal is an excellent way to keep memories, organise your thoughts and keep a record of important things. There are plenty of world-famous diaries (not so secret now) with the most famous probably being The Diary of Anne Frank and then fictional diaries like The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13¾.
Keeping a secret diary or journal is a great way for children to express themselves, build emotional resilience (by helping them to process their thoughts and feelings etc.) and also helps them to explore and use language. They are also excellent for young children to practice handwriting and writing skills. It is something that should be encouraged more and makes a great gift.
Giving a child a journal allows them to write freely, then can record important dates such as their friends’ birthdays, days out and all their special childhood memories, it is something that is extremely personal, and a lockable journal helps kids feel safe in what they are writing and gives them a sense of their own privacy, somewhere safe to place their thoughts, hopes and fears in a non-judgemental place.
But keeping a journal doesn’t have to be boring or seen as a chore. FunLockets have a Secret Glitter Journal, suitable for children aged 6+, and it is more than a diary or journal to write in – it is lockable with hidden keys and has over 30 surprises with in it – it makes keeping a journal, writing notes, drawing pictures etc. so much more fun. The FunLockets Secret Diary Journal Glitter Edition is lots of fun. It is a lockable journal, measuring W161mm x H192mm x D56mm, so is perfect for putting in their schoolbag, on their desk, on the bookshelf or hiding in their special secret hiding place. As kids are notorious for losing things or putting things down and forgetting where they are, with this journal they don’t even need to remember where they have hidden the key as it is hidden within the journal itself, so is also accessible to them and means they won’t lock themselves out (as long as they remember where they left it). Once they unlock the secret compartment with the hidden heart-shaped key they insert the key into the lock, turn to the unlock position and then twist the glittery heart on the cover the open the journal and gain access to its secrets. Once inside, there are more hidden keys and lockable compartments.
Once they have gained access to the journal, they have access to stickers to decorate and personalise their journal, can write notes using the glittery pencil and decorate the pages with the stencils and stickers, and record their most special thoughts, secrets and important information. It can be used just like a diary and encourages creativity and mindfulness, handwriting and writing skills.
Overall, the FunLockets Secret Diary Journal Glitter is a fun way for children to start with keeping a journal. The secret compartments and hidden keys make it a great way for children to keep their writing, drawings and musings private.
Personalisation is easy, although the stencil sheet is only cardboard so how long it will last I couldn’t say. The quality of the journal feels very good, and you can even download more notepad images from FunLockets to cut out and refill the space once the notepad is used up.
This will make a fun gift for children aged 6+ this Christmas, and the hidden keys and locked compartments gives it that extra specialness that children love.
