Got It!

Regular readers of our website will be fully aware that we love to play board games as a family and have regular game nights. We have lots of games and played a lot more. As anybody that has played a variety of games will know, there are lots of games that are very similar to each other but for this review we were playing a family game that is different from the rest we have played before, all the answers are there – they are just written in different codes! This game is Got It! from The Happy Puzzle Company.

You probably know that a strawberry is red, or that Paris is the capital of France. You probably also know the names of common musical instruments, famous Kings and Queens of England, well-known sporting events or even breeds of dog. Of course you do… The question is, would you know all of these things if they appeared in code? When the question is so easy, Got It! turns into a game of speed, as you race your opponent(s) to decode the answers and enjoy that ‘Got It!’ moment, as everything falls into place! Got It! features 960 question and answer challenges covering a wide range of family-friendly subjects, with commonly used codes, including Braille, Semaphore, British Sign Language, Morse Code and Hieroglyphics, plus others that you probably never even knew existed.

In the box:

  • 6x Code-breaking ‘crib sheets’ containing the details of all eight codes
  • 60x Double sided challenge cards
  • 1x Eight-sided die
  • 1x Card stand
  • Instructions

Got It! is a general knowledge quiz game for 2-6 players, aged 8 and above, where you have to decode the answers. All the answers are in code; Braille, Semaphore, British Sign Language (BSL), Morse Code, Hieroglyphics and a few others (the world’s first game to do so). The idea of the game is to be the fastest to decode the answer and win 3 rounds.

Setting up the game for play is so simple. Everybody is given a code-breaking crib sheet (these have 8 different codes on it that you can use to decipher the challenge cards). Shuffle the 60 challenge cards and place them in the centre of the table. Setting up is complete and you are ready to play.

Playing the game is simple. Take a challenge card and place it in the card stand so that all players see the same side of it (the cards are double-sided with a different challenge on each side). Roll the eight-sided die and the number rolled is the number of the challenge on the card that needs to be solved. The first player to crack the code and give the correct answer (using the code-breaking crib sheet) wins the round – the first player to win 3 rounds is the winner.

When answering, each player only gets one chance. If you give an incorrect answer, you are out of that round. Any player that gives an answer has to check the answer on the card (can be found at the base of the challenge card on the reverse side). Some challenges might have more than one possible answer, including some that may not be listed, if the answer fits, it counts!

Overall, Got It! is an excellent fun general knowledge quiz game that is different from other games we have played. It is very simple to set up and play. The rules are extremely easy to understand. Using eight different codes that you have to decipher is excellent and lots of fun.

There are 60 double-sided challenge cards with each round having eight possible answers, so playability is good with 960 challenges.

It is a wonderfully fun and competitive game for people that love general knowledge quizzes and problem solving. The brain teasing code-breaking puzzles are varied and you get to learn more about Braille, Morse Code and other kinds of non-spoken language.

We have really enjoyed the game, putting our brains and decoding skills to the test. It is a competitive game that is fun to play and learn from. With Christmas just around the corner it would make and excellent game to play over the festive period with family and friends.

It you don’t know Morse Code, the above text says, “Fast-thinking competitive family fun.”
