Karcher FC5 Hard Floor Cleaner Review

FC5

After moving into my new house I decided that in the hallway, living room and kitchen I wanted vinyl flooring laid as it would be easy to keep clean (especially with twin boys running around). It is very easy to sweep all the detritus away and easy to mop. The only problem with mopping is waiting for it to dry. I received the Karcher FC5 Hard Floor Cleaner for review which makes cleaning hard floors much easier and quicker.

The Karcher FC5 Hard Floor Cleaner is a cross between a vacuum cleaner and a mop. It vacuums up light debris while washing the floors at the same time, this saves you having to do 2 jobs (sweeping and mopping). It features a 2-tank system (one for clean water and one for the dirty water and debris collection), 2 removable rollers and a storage base.

When it arrived and was unboxed it did need some very simple assembly; the handle needed inserting and the floor rollers attached. This was straightforward with the easy to follow instructions enclosed in the box.

Using it is quite simple once you figure out the instructions (they are not very easy to understand). I gave up on them and found a “How to Use” instruction video on YouTube, this was much easier and explained it in simple terms. Once the cleaner has been assembled, you add a cap full of detergent to the fresh water tank and fill it with water. You then stand the cleaner upright in the supplied stand and add 5ml of water into the stand. When you switch on the cleaner, leave in the stand for a few seconds to moisten the rollers. Once the rollers are wet, you are ready to start cleaning the floor.

At 5kg the cleaner is quite light although when switched on the forward movement is quite powerful, so you do need to keep a tight grip on it. Once moving across the floor, it is quite effortless.

So, is the Karcher FC5 any good? I think that It is absolutely brilliant. Before receiving the Karcher FC5 Hard Floor Cleaner I swept and mopped the floors all the time and naturally assumed the floors were clean, but the amount of dirty water that was in the tank after a quick run over the floors was quite disturbing. The Karcher sucks up any light debris that may be on the floor while “mopping” it at the same time. As it mops the floor it is also sucking up any excess water so the floors are dry in minutes. The body of the cleaner moves so you can easily get around corners and manoeuvre it very easily and get under chairs and furniture. It has edge to edge cleaning so you can get right up against the skirting boards.

The rollers can be removed after use and cleaned in the washing machine and the dirty water tank is easily removed for emptying.

The Karcher FC Hard Floor Cleaner is a powerful floor cleaner and the results are excellent. While I initially thought the price tag of £249.99 was on the pricey side, after using it I can definitely say it is worth the money and gives excellent cleaning results which a sweeping brush and a mop & bucket just can’t compete with.
