Photowall Poster Print Review

Poster

Growing up I had posters on my walls, as did a lot of my friends. If we didn’t buy posters there were always posters in magazines (or even the option of tearing a page out). Posters are still used today in homes and public spaces as artwork and advertising as they are a good and inexpensive way of adding some artwork to your walls.

We have spent the last year decorating and furnishing the whole house. Getting the look right by picking the perfect colours and furniture took nearly as much time as actually getting the rooms painted and new floor coverings put in. Now that all the rooms are finished to our liking, we have been looking at getting some wall art. When I say wall art, I don’t mean stuffy oil paintings or even playing it safe and putting up our own framed photographs, we wanted something fun and large enough to cover a big area on the wall. Photowall are experts in wall art and offer a wide range of wall coverings to inspire and choose from.

Photowall are an established wall art company based in Sweden and offer 1000s of high quality, creative and customisable wall art designs from their own stock images or your own photos, on canvas, posters, wall murals, featured wallpaper and framed prints. Their website has images for every occasion from animals to vintage including children, world maps, forest scenes, city skylines (London, New York, etc.), Star Wars, Disney, Elvis, art & design and a whole lot more.

We really liked some of the city skylines that Photowall have on their website (London, New York, Edinburgh, Rome and lots more) and have thought about getting one on canvas for a long time. After spending a lot of time (and I do mean a lot as there is so much choice, possibly too much, with 22650 poster motifs) browsing the easy to navigate Photowall website we decided to go for a city skyline featuring the town that we live in, but went for a poster print instead of a canvas.

We live in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and have landmarks like Castle Hill and Victoria Tower right on our doorstep. Despite really loving the London city skyline images we decided to pick the Huddersfield skyline poster as it would be much more relevant for the kids and feature landmarks that they would know and had visited.

Photowall’s poster prints start from as little £22, in sizes from as little as 30x20cm (12×8”) right up to the rather large 150x100cm (59×39”). The posters are entirely unique and can be customised in both size and design and come with or without a border and can be ordered with or without a hanging kit. The posters are printed on uncoated premium paper (200 g/m²), giving them a striking matte appearance. The paper is age-resistant, as well as both flexible and smooth without being reflective, giving the print a high-quality feeling. The printing technology they use is museum-level quality, providing vivid colours and deep blacks. The ink used meet the European standards for toys and is UV-resistant.

As I have already mentioned, we live in Huddersfield so chose the Huddersfield Skyline print by artPause. There are five different versions of this print to pick from in different colours but we chose a bright a colourful rainbow colour version that had the words HUDDERSFIELD, ENGLAND printed underneath the image. We selected it without the border as it makes the skyline image bigger, leaving less white space on the poster. We also choose it with the hanging kit, this is available in Smoked Ash colour but we would have like to see a variety of colour options to fit the colour of our room better. We have a large wall that really needed something on it so knew that we needed a large version of the print and decided to go for the 125x80cm (49×31”) version rather the largest 150x100xm, and this turned out to be the perfect size for the space on the wall where we put it (when choosing your print, if you are purchasing a hanging kit you need to allow room for the hanging string in your measurements).

Ordering from the website is a very simple process and orders can be paid for by credit/debit card or Paypal. Shipping is free with DHL 5-7 delivery and orders are despatched in 1-3 days (you can pay extra for faster 1-2 day shipping). As it turned out, we received our order 2 days after it was shipped. We were keep informed of the process and delivery along the way, including from the courier.

The poster arrived in a long narrow box, the box is made from fully or partially recycled materials. For easy shipping the print comes rolled up in the box (with plenty of paper around it to protect the print from scratches or tears). If you order a hanging kit, as we did, this is included in the box and needs to be fitted to the print. This makes shipping a lot easier, makes the prints less prone to damage and reduces shipping costs.

When taking the print out of the packaging, the first thing that we noticed was how thick and good quality it looked and felt. You can really feel how high quality it is. The print itself was very clear, sharp and the matte finish (rather than the glossy photo finish I expect from posters) was excellent.

We ordered the hanging kit with our print (and if you order a poster print I would really recommend getting the hanging kit rather than pinning the poster to the wall). This needs some small assembly, fitting the hanging string and attaching the pieces to the print. This is really easy by loosing a few screws, slotting in the print and centre holding piece and then retightening the screws (the Allen key to do this is even supplied). The kit makes the poster hang really well on the wall.

Once fixed to the wall, the image was very striking and eye-catching, and it finished off the room perfectly.

We are extremely happy with our poster. The quality is excellent, and it was so easy to hang. It really does take the blank, plain look off the wall and makes the room much warmer, inviting and interesting (the poster is also a conversation starter, especially when people are trying to see if they can name all the landmarks featured on it).

Photowall offer a lot of choice on their website with a variety of images in different sizes and mountings. We did consider having a wall mural or featured wallpaper as some of the ones available by Photowall look great, but we decided on a poster print in the end purely for ease as we felt that if we ever wanted to change the look of the room it is much easy to remove a hanging print. Poster prints start from £22 and you can use Photowall’s thousands of stock images or even upload your own.

We will definitely use Photowall again and would whole-heartedly recommend.
