Edifier Comfo C Wireless Earbuds Review

Open-ear clip-on design

Comfo C

Wireless earbuds have become an essential accessory for many people. They offer the freedom to move around without the hassle of tangled or broken wires. Most wireless earbuds have an in-ear design, they push into you ear relying on suction to keep them in. But Edifier’s Comfo C wireless earbuds are different, they still offer the same quality and style associated with the brand but have an open-ear design, making them perfect for enjoying your music while still being able to hear ambient sounds, ensuring safety and awareness. As they don’t have an in-ear design, they have a different and unique way of fitting your ears – they clip on!

Clip-on wireless earbuds, this unique design actually sounds painful and rather uncomfortable, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The Comfo C are actually exceptionally comfortable and perfect for all day wearing.

 Features:

  • Open-ear clip-on design offers all-day comfortable wearing.
  • Smart audio channel detection for interchangeable use of left and right earbuds.
  • Directional acoustic technology minimises sound leakage and enhances sound quality.
  • 12mm dynamic driver with titanium-coated composite diaphragm delivers a dynamic, detailed, and powerful sound.
  • AI algorithm ensures clear phone calls.
  • IP56 dust and water resistance ensures durability.
  • Multipoint connection enables smooth devices switching.
  • Effortlessly pause/resume music with wearing detection.
  • Bluetooth® V5.4 for seamless audio streaming and a stable connection.
  • Compatible with the EDIFIER ConneX App for additional functions: drainage function, personalise control settings, find your earbuds, and more.

The Edifier Comfo C wireless earbuds have a sleek and innovative clip-on design. Unlike in-ear earbuds which push into your ear, the Comfo C clip around the ear with a gentle hug rather than a hard spring-loaded clip – this makes them extremely comfortable to wear, so comfortable that you really can’t feel them. They only weigh 5.8g each, so there is no real weight on your ears.

With up to 7 hours usage from a single charge (depending on the users personal settings, but 7 hours is based on SBC decoding and 80% volume, as tested in the Edifier Lab), and a 15 minutes fast-charge for 3 hours use, they are perfect for all day usage. The small pocket-friendly charging case has another 21 hours charge in it, giving another 3 full charges, a total of up to 28 hours playback.

They use Bluetooth v5.4 to enable stable, secure communication and low-power between devices (up to 10m / 30ft) and can connect to two devices – I have them connected to my laptop and my phone which allows me to listen to music while working and being able to seamlessly switch over to my phone and take a call.

With a 12mm dynamic driver with titanium-coated composite diaphragm they deliver a loud, powerful and clear sound – while writing this my playlist featured an eclectic mix of music including Guns N’ Roses and the sound was fantastic. They feature Directional Acoustic Technology that directs sound waves into the ear.

Overall, when I received the Comfo C wireless earbuds I was very dubious about them and the clip-on design (I had seen a picture of the Comfo Run and thought that was what I was getting; they are earbuds with a neckband). But from the very second that I paired them to my devices and attached them to my ears I was hooked. The comfort and sound quality is just excellent. I easily forgot that I was wearing them as they are so lightweight and comfortable to wear.

I like the open-ear design. I have a habit of turning off ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) on my other earbuds so that I can still hear traffic noise etc. when walking down the street, so the open-ear design suit me well as I can still hear ambient noises.

Pairing with my devices was so simple. Out of the box, on first use they are already in pairing mode so it was just a matter of selecting them on the list of Bluetooth devices on my phone. To pair with my laptop at the same time (multi-point connection) was so easy, pop the earbuds into the case and open the lid, press the button on the back of the case for 3 seconds and select them on the laptop – it literally takes a few seconds. Once paired they will automatically connect to the devices used the last time.

Wearing them is easy, despite my initial thoughts about being clip-on. The speaker bud goes in your ear (not pushed in like in-ear buds) while the other part fits on the back on the ear. While they clip-on, it isn’t like a hard spring-loaded clip, it is more of a gentle hug. And while it is hugging the ear, there is no real pressure, making them comfortable to wear. Despite not being a hard clip attachment, they are extremely secure – whether that’s just walking, jogging or head-banging to hard rock! Once I had them on they didn’t move.

Using the touch controls took me a bit of time to get used to. With previous earbuds I am so used to tapping the earbud part in my ear to pause/play/skip tracks/answer calls, it has just become an automatic reaction. With the Comfo C you can still control the earbuds by tapping on them, just not on the part in your ear. To control the functions you tap on the band that goes between the part in your ear and behind your ear. Once you find the sweet spot (and remember to touch the band rather than the earbud) they are easy to control, it is just getting used to it.

As with most wireless earbuds, they are for more than listening to your favourite tunes or streaming your favourite tv series in peace. They can also be used for receiving and making calls, and the sound is crystal clear. They use an AI algorithm to filter out background noise, ensuring clear calls.

They are also dust and water resistant (IP56 rated). And they have a rather cool function when using the app. Activate the drainage function in the Edifier ConneX app and they automatically expel water droplets (they vibrate for 6 seconds, shaking any droplets out).

Talking about the app. The app lets you control so many more functions. Firstly, you can get wearing instructions to show you how to wear the earbuds properly. But then you can customise the touch controls for what suits you best, change wearing detection settings, power off settings, and even help you find where you have left the earbuds.

Combo C

I love that unlike in-ear earbuds there is no correct ear to wear each one in, you can wear them in either ear. They feature Smart Audio Channel Detection. The symmetrical design supports wearing in either ear, with automatic calibration to ensure accurate audio output.

I also love the wearing detection. When taking one of the earbuds out of your ear it automatically pauses the track you are listening to and starts to play again once you pop it back into your ear, never missing a beat.

And if you are gamer, they have a low-latency gaming mode to reduce any lag between the sounds and visuals in your favourite games.

As for charging, well the earbuds are charged with the case. Pop them in the case and close the lid. If the case has charge, the earbuds take about 1 hour to fully charge – no need to hunt for a power outlet, charge on the go in your pocket. When the case needs charging, it has a USB-C port on the back, just plug in and it takes about 1.5 hours to fully charge. And a 15 minute fast-charge will give you earbuds up to another 3 hours playback.

I am really enjoying the Edifier Comfo C, they fit well, are exceptionally comfortable and lightweight and sound fantastic (and loud). Which leaves me in a dilemma – my favourite earbuds are my Edifier W320TN wireless in-ear earbuds but I love the comfort, fit and sound quality of the Comfo C just as much, so now I need to decide what ones to grab when I’m on my way out the door. Although what a choice to have.
