Nothing can ever be perfect, even when you think it is – there is always something that can be improved on. In December 2021 we tried out and reviewed the Edifier W820NB Wireless Headphones and loved them – lightweight and comfortable with great sound. But everything can be improved on somewhere and Edifier have done just that with their updated W820NB Plus Wireless Headphones.
The Edifier W820NB Plus Wireless Headphones are a pair of wireless noise cancellation over-ear headphones available in several colour options (black, blue, green, grey and ivory). This updated version features support for LDAC coding, certification of Hi-Res Audio Wireless, 40mm dynamic driver with Titanium coated composite diaphragm for crystal clear listening and up to 49 hours of playtime (using Bluetooth v5.2).

The W820NB Plus Headphones are certified by Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Wireless Audio, providing a high-frequency bandwidth of up to 40kHz. Whether you prefer wired or wireless connectivity, you can enjoy music with enhanced details, a wider sound field, and richer emotions.
These latest edition of theses headphones utilise LDAC high-definition codecs technology that allows for a transmission bandwidth of up to 990kbps. Available in Grey, Green, Blue, Ivory or traditional Black, there is a colour for everyone! The super soft headband and ear cushions are comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The retractable headphone arm will give you a secure fit with less pressure and help prevent sound leakage.
Overall, these are a great pair of headphones, and the upgrades are excellent. They are perfect for listening to music, gaming, streaming videos and taking hands-free telephone calls. We love the comfort of the soft headband strap and the ear pads. The ear pads are snug against your head and extremely comfortable, covering the entire ear. While the fit and comfort is prefect, the sound is better – rich, clear and crisp with a perfect crystal clear microphone so that when on telephone calls the caller can hear you just as well as if you were standing next to them.
Using them is simple. There are four buttons on the right ear cup that manage most functions by pressing different buttons once or twice or holding buttons for 3 to 6 seconds: pairing, volume, skipping tracks, answering calls, changing modes (ANC, Ambient and Game Mode). The ear cups even fold inwards so they can be laid flat on a table etc. If you download the free Edifier app you have even more control and customisation (including listening to soothing sounds and viewing battery levels).
The ANC mode is excellent, it has been improved over the previous version of these headphones going from 38dB to 43dB. It does a great job of blocking out external sounds so that you get the optimal listening experience, and it is easy to switch to ambient mode when out and about so that you can still listen out for traffic noise or station announcement etc. You do have less battery life when using in ANC mode.
Charging is via a USB-C cable with a full charge taking around 1.5 hours which gives up to 49 continuous playback with ANC off or up to 33 hours with ANC on (also depends on volume level used). A 10 minute charge will give you up to 7 hours of use. And you can still use them as a wired pair of headphones whilst charging on a computer.
We also love that while these are fantastic wireless headphones, if you do happen to run out of battery you can still use them as a wired set on a computer and charge at the same time – just plug the USB cable into the headphones and computer and you can charge whilst still listening to your favourite music, streaming your favourite TV show or videos or playing your favourite game.
The Edifier W820NB Plus Wireless Headphones are excellent and the updates from the predecessor are perfect. Their understated look is superb with colouring to suit everybody (I usually go for black, but the blue colouring is fantastic using two blue colours) and like all Edifier products we have tried they feel like extremely good quality and well constructed. The battery life is excellent and will last all day and more no matter what mode you use them in, and the crystal clear sound quality is sublime.
Changing tracks, increasing/decreasing the volume or answering/rejecting phone calls is very simple by using the minimal buttons on the earcup (or through the phone app).
A very comfortable and enjoyable set of lightweight headphones (approx. 221g) with an excellent listening experience. At under £80, they are an excellent quality set of headphones that are well worth the price tag.
And with summer also upon us, they make the perfect travelling companion for enjoying the outdoors!
