Christmas, a time for peace and quiet. Yeah, right, not with excited children running around, excited wanting to see what the big man has brought them, the squeals of delight when a present is ripped open and it is something that they really wanted. Christmas is anything but peaceful and quiet. But then comes the aftermath and after all the clearing up and finding homes for all the new gifts you can finally sit down and relax, that is until one of the kids whips out their new laptop or phone and starts streaming terrible music from their favourite streaming service. But with a bit of forethought that can be avoided. Wireless earbuds are going to be a big thing this year; kids want them as much as parents and guardians want to give them for that sought-after peace and quiet.
Wireless earbuds are a MUST HAVE accessory for any teenager that has a phone and is constantly on it, with constant beeps from messages, streaming music and video and if you have more than one child in the house the cacophony of electronic noises can be quite something. So wireless earbuds are the way to go – the teenagers can listen to their devices in peace whilst the rest of the household doesn’t have to listen to their poor taste in music.
So, if you have decided that you want to get your teenager, or even yourself, a pair or wireless earbuds, where do you start as there are plenty on the market?
In our house, wireless earbuds are on both children’s Christmas lists but with the eldest being so clumsy we are still deciding whether it is a good thing! She is scatty and likely to loose one (or both!) on her way to school on the train platform by not paying attention and one popping out is a real concern, especially if she has them in and has to run for the train!
Looking at wireless earbuds, we wanted something that would stay in her ears and not be rolling down the road or platform if she was using them waiting for her train and have found the perfect set. They are not only perfect for the clumsy among us but are also perfect for those of us that like to go out for a run.
JAM Audio have created a secure pair of wireless earbuds that hook over the ear and we were happy to try them out and see if they are what we are looking for in our search for a pair of wireless, but secure, earbuds.
The JAM Audio True Wireless Athlete Earbuds are a pair of ultra-secure over-ear hooks earbuds that not only go in your ear but also hook over it to keep them secure and in place when walking, running or even a workout in the gym.
In the box:
- Jam TWS Athlete earbuds
- Charging Case
- 3 Sizes of Ear Tips: Small, Medium and Large
- USB-C Charging Cable
- Quick Start Guide
The JAM Audio True Wireless Athlete Earbuds feature an ultra-flexible ergonomic ear hook design to ensure that the wearer has a really secure fit. The fit is very secure, and the earbuds do not come loose when moving but they also have a very comfortable fir (even if I put my glasses on with the earbuds in). They also have IPX5 rating, making them sweat and water resistant (the sweat-resistant materials are all-weather ready), so are perfect for the British winter weather as well as exercising and building up a sweat. The earbuds have an on-board battery that gives up to 6 hours playback (depending on volume levels, if using one earbud or both, etc.) from a 2-hour charge and up to 30 hours total with the charging case. The charging case battery holds an extra four complete charges, so you can still charge the earbuds even when you are not anywhere that you can plug in a charger.
Earbud Features:
- Silicon earpieces
- Connection: True Wireless
- Bluetooth enabled: V5.0
- USB-C connection
- In-line controls
- Passive noise cancellation
- 15m range

The JAM Audio True Wireless Athlete Earbuds are a fantastic pair of really secure and comfortably fitting true wireless earbuds. The flexible hook ensures a perfect fit regardless of the size of your ear and the buds themselves fit snugly in the ear (you might have to change the ear tips to a size that fits you better, but this is very easy to do). They are really comfortable to wear and you soon forget that you are wearing them.
They only need pairing once with a device once and once removed from the charging case will automatically pair. They will automatically shut off when placed back into the case.
The controls are on the earbuds (play/pause, track control, voice assistant and call answer and reject), a physical button that depending on how many times you touch it has different functions. This is easy to use and makes using the earbuds a breeze. Although, as with all the wireless earbuds I have used, the volume is controlled from your phone or tablet.
The sound is excellent. The 6mm drivers give a full sound with a deep bass and is very clear, even at the highest of volume. The microphone is clear for voice calls and once paired with a phone is very simple to answer and reject calls.
A cover for the USB-C port on the charging case would be the only improvement point, as the port will collect dust, fluff and other debris quite easily, especially in a teenager’s schoolbag.
Overall, these are an excellent pair of wireless earbuds. The are secure, comfortable to wear and sound great. They are quite light with each earbud weighing 8g each. They really will not fall out, whether walking, running or powering away at the gym. The sweat resistant material also means they stay in the ear better.
The JAM Audio True Wireless Athlete Earbuds would make an excellent gift for teenagers who just want to listen to music or watch video, or for sport and exercise lovers.
