Purdy & Figg Eco-friendly Hand Sanitiser Spray Review

All natural hand sanitiser

Hand Sanitiser

Well, what a year this has been so far with the worldwide Coronavirus pandemic; businesses closed, schools closed, lots of people working from home and self-isolation. It hasn’t been great and looks to continue for a while yet, although fingers crossed there are several vaccines on the horizon but they will take a little while yet for approval, production and actually getting it into the arms of the masses.

For the meantime, and something that would be good practice even after we are all vaccinated, is good hygiene practices like keeping your hands clean – that involves washing them properly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and using hand sanitiser when out and about.

As any of us that use hand sanitiser gels regularly will tell you, they can leave your hands sticky and dehydrated, but we all need to use them to protect not just ourselves but other people. Fortunately, the eco-friendly British hand sanitiser brand Purdy & Figg have created natural, beautifully fragranced hand sanitisers to make hygiene a pleasurable experience, keeping your hands protected and moisturised.

Purdy & Figg was founded by Purdy Rubin, an NHS nurse, and Charlotte Figg, a horticulturalist, inspired by the power of natural ingredients. It is their desire to replace the toxic chemicals we use on our skin and in our homes with natural, protective products scented with pure essential oils. They are also passionate about reducing plastic waste in our homes, making sure all their packaging is reusable or recyclable.

Purdy & Figg have created a better, bacteria-killing and moisturising alternative to mass produced gels. Their hand sanitiser is over 70% alcohol – killing 99.9% of bacteria – blended with 100% pure essential oils, witch hazel and vegetable glycerin to keep your skin protected, keeping your hands protected, moisturised and beautifully scented. The spray is quick to dry and doesn’t leave your hands feeling sticky and dehydrated.

They have three signature scents in their hand sanitiser range, made with all-natural ingredients (including pure essential oils): Original Citrus, Charlotte’s Floral and Wild Woody, as well as the limited-edition Frankincense and Myrrh. All of the scents can be purchased in 250ml refill bottles to allow people to reuse their spray bottles.

Purdy & Figg kindly sent us their box set of three hand sanitisers, The Set 50ml. It contains three 50ml bottles of their three signature scents Original Citrus, Wild Woody and Charlotte’s Floral. Each is supplied is a glass bottle to reduce single use plastic waste.

  • Clinically proven to kill 99.99% of bacteria
  • Keeps your hands soft as well as clean
  • Contains over 70% alcohol
  • No rinse, quick drying spray
  • Natural essential oil blend of 3 different hand sanitiser fragrances
  • Each 50ml bottle delivers over 300 uses
  • Glass bottle to reduce single use plastic
  • Made in the UK

Each bottle is made up using pharmaceutical grade isopropyl alcohol (aka premium isopropanol), Witch Hazel, non-GMO and vegan friendly Vegetable Glycerin and 100% Natural Essential Oils. Each bottle gives around 300 uses, so this set should give approx. 900 sprays.

The blue 50ml spray bottles are a good size, without being too big to keep in your bag. They are easy to use, just shake the bottle and pump the spray onto your hands, making sure that you get every part of your hands by rubbing your hands together, making sure that you clean both fronts and backs of hands, between your knuckles, wrists and fingernails. I found that each of these sprays, even after several uses, did not leave my hands dried out and they certainly smelled much better that the alcohol gel I had been using (I didn’t smell like I had just left a distillery).

The Original Citrus smells quite citrussy and nice after the initial concentrated spray that reminded me, to be perfectly honest, of a household cleaner. The initial strong, concentrated smell died down within seconds once I started to rub it in and was quite pleasant and not overpowering.

Charlotte’s Floral I found to be a light flowery scent, that is probably more feminine, but it is not overpowering and again is quite pleasant.

Finally, Wild Woody I would say is the most masculine smell of the three. It is a strong scent, more so than the other two, but I did not find it overpowering, you don’t smell like you dropped the aftershave or just walked out of a perfume shop.

Despite my initial thoughts of household cleaner, the Original Citrus is actually my favourite scent. It is a nice citrus scent once rubbed into the skin, not overpowering and very pleasant. The smell doesn’t stay too long on the skin.

After every use, my hands not only smell nice and have been sanitised with 70% alcohol spray, but they are also not dehydrated and feel quite soft.

With good hand hygiene a must this year and going forward into the future, not just for Coronavirus but also flu, colds and other germs, the Purdy & Figg hand sanitisers would make a good practical stocking filler or Secret Santa gift. Give the gift of clean this Christmas.

It costs £16.99 for the three bottle gift set. Whilst initially you might think that is expensive they are all made up from all-natural ingredients and use recyclable/refillable packaging, smell much better than standard cheap alcohol sanitisers and they leave your skin feeling much better with no drying out.

With us all having to use hand sanitisers, what better stocking filler is there than a germ killing hand spray to keep you, your loved ones and even people you have never met before that little bit safer. Good hand hygiene is a must regardless of whatever virus is out there and Purdy & Figg have an eco-friendly, excellent quality product that brings a bit of luxury to the process.

As well as the three bottle set, Purdy & Figg also have Christmas gift sets available from £17.99 including refillable atomisers.
