The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem Review

For Xbox One

Mansion Mayhem

Most of our family game nights are spent playing board games, but we do also like to play family games on the Xbox – local co-op games where we can all play together. Trying to find family games that will hold the interest of everybody, from 9 years old upwards, is a bit of a challenge. Now we have a new game where we can all play together as 4 players on one screen, or even play as a single should we want to. Family game time just got more exciting with The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem from Outright Games, especially as we have all watched The Addams Family – from the original 1964 television to the latest movies (we haven’t seen the latest addition The Addams Family 2 yet). With the weather being as cold, snowy and heavy rain as it has been over recent weeks it is good to have something easy we can all do together indoors that is that little bit different.

The Addams Family Mansion Mayhem is a horrifying hilarious 3D platform game for 1, 2, 3 or 4 players where players have to help Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday and Pugsley save their mansion by exploring the house, solving puzzles, finding lost relics, collecting doubloons whilst piecing together the horrifically exciting history of the creepy and kooky, mysterious and spooky Addams Family.

With a lot of multi-player games you tend to play on split games, but with The Addams Family Mansion Mayhem you play on a single screen regardless of how many players, so you all play together (although you do all have to stay in sight of each other on the screen as if a character goes out of screenshot they lose a life).

Overall, we have enjoyed playing this game as a family (our own and as our favourite character from The Addams Family).

The game is very simple to play without having to be overly skilful or having to do too much thinking to find your way through the puzzles and the mansion – just jumping, bumping and racing your way around the Addams Family mansion to collect coins and family relics whilst defeating enemies along the way as a family and a combined score. We are lucky enough to have four Xbox controllers so could all play together and as the four characters in the game – Gomez, Morticia, Tuesday and Pugsley. Mini games are played throughout the game (and I think we all found these to be the most fun, battling each other to see who could win).

There are four worlds to play your way through with approximately 8 levels per worlds. The action can be a little repetitive at times, but the kids enjoy it, and the bread box level is a good favourite. You have three lives (hearts) per character, but you never really lose them as when you use them all up you just wait a few seconds and you are back in the game. It really is a game that you can keep playing until you get bored.

The mini games in the game are very competitive and they can also be played sperate from the main game play (we do play these a lot). They are short games but really lots of fun.

The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem is a fun game that the whole family can join in with regardless of gaming ability levels. Younger children will definitely get the most enjoyment out of it, especially as they can never really lose a life, but it is good fun for all the family. It is easy to play, the controls are simple and there are no complicated button presses to access special moves/weapons.

If you are looking for a local co-op game for all the family to play, especially if you have 4 controllers, then this is a fun game that everybody can join in with, from children (age 7+) to grandparents.

We played on the Xbox One but it is also available on Switch/PS4/Steam.
