Beat That! Party Game Review

2-8 Players | Age 9+ | 40-60 Minutes Playing Time

Beat That

As a family that love to sit down around the table for regular game nights, we are always looking out for new games that we can play. We enjoy a variety of games, but the favourites are always ones when we can all play together without anybody having any real advantage and where we can all have a good laugh. As adults, we have enjoyed Guttterhead – The Fiendishly Filthy Drawing Game from Gutter Games, an adult party game, but we wanted a party game that the kids can join in with too. I think we might have found it with a new firm favourite that fits those requirements in Beat That! The bonkers battle of wacky challenges.

Beat That! The Bonkers Battle of Wacky Challenges, is a fun party game for 2 to 8 players that the entire family can play, suitable from age 9+. Gameplay is anywhere from 40 to 60 minutes. In the box there are:

  • 160 Challenge Cards
  • 80 Betting Tokens
  • 10 Cups
  • 5 Balls
  • 4 Dice
  • Chopsticks
  • Memo Pad
  • Tape Measure
  • Sand Timer
  • Instructions

All the items fit nice and neatly into the colourful and fun box that has an internal foam base where everything has its place.

So what actually it Beat That!? Beat That! is described as the world’s wackiest party game with 160 silly and funny challenges to play – and we would have to agree, it really does have plenty of fast and frantic fun playability and not just for families but adults too!

The idea is that you have to win the most points that you can over 10 rounds of wacky games and the player with the most points at the end is the winner. Each player starts the game with ten tokens of varying colours – the different coloured tokens have different points values and each player starts with 5 blue (1 point), 3 orange (3 points) and 2 yellow tokens (5 points).

To start playing, a challenge card is picked up and read aloud so that all the other players can hear it. All players then place a bet on their own ability to complete the challenge. Once the bets are placed, all players take turns attempting the challenge. The players who succeed in the challenge bank their points. The player with the most points at the end of 10 rounds wins! Quite simple but can be more difficult than it sounds and is definitely a lot of fun! – Can you bounce 2 balls into 2 cups at the same time using only one hand? How about racing to stack a pyramid of cups using your elbows with your eyes closed? You will have to play Beat That! and put your skills to the test.

You can play Beat That! in different ways:

  • SOLO: Attempt the challenge on your own.
  • BATTLE ROYALE: All compete at the same time.
  • BUDDY UP: Work cooperatively with a partner.
  • DUEL: Compete against an opponent.

Overall, this is a fabulous, fantastically fun party game that we all loved. The challenges, all of varying degrees of difficulty, are fun and best of all can be attempted and completed by all members of the family regardless of age, strength, intelligence or ability. It really is a game that will have you in fits of laughter.

All players have to play and complete the same challenges, so no one has any advantage over the over or gets given harder/easier challenges to do. They just have to make bets on their own confidence in beating the challenge – if not confident you would bet a blue token (1 point) but if extremely confident then you would be a yellow token (5 points). Challenges include bouncing balls into cup, gargling along to songs, balancing cups on your forehead, and picking up dice with cups on your hands.

Whilst most of the challenges can be played sitting around the table, some other may require a bit more space – so make sure that you clear some space in the room you are playing in before starting.

Our ages start from 9 and end in the 40s and we all thoroughly enjoyed this game, with none of the challenges that we have played so far falling flat on its face. And with such different challenges to play no one was getting bored or disillusioned with the game.

Some challenges were more difficult for others (usually down to getting older and poor fitness on the part of the adults), and this creates a large amount of amusement and laughing for everyone involved.

We absolutely love this game. It is jam-packed with fun, and yes silly, challenges. But if you allow yourself to enjoy it and embrace the challenges you are guaranteed to have lots of belly-hurting, tears streaming down your face fun.

Another thing that we really like about this game is that all the objects supplied are general household things (plastic cups, chopsticks, ping pong balls etc.) and if we lose or damage any pieces we can just replace them with bits we already have. You can even expand the game further with more challenges by purchasing the Beat That! – Household Objects Expansion Pack!

Beat That! is a fun family party game that will be lots of fun for family game nights or just to have great fun with friends. Age is no barrier, and it really is a game of taking part and having fun rather than who the overall winner is.
