iWALK PowerSquid Portable Charger Review

One for all portable charger. Bring the power with you.

PowerSquid

Phones, cameras, tablets, smart watches, wireless earbuds and headphones are just some of the everyday devices that we carry around with us. And these days we don’t need to carry around bulky AC adapters or an endless supply of batteries around for each individual device to power them as most are charged using a USB cable of some sort (although it can be annoying that, as yet, there is no standard cable). But sometimes we need to charge our devices when we are out and about, enjoying the outdoors and nowhere near a plug socket. There is no need to panic about running out of battery just as you are about to take that perfect photo (hopefully of something more interesting than your dinner for your social media) or where to get your next charging fix from as keeping a fully charged portable charger, like the iWALK PowerSquid, in your bag or pocket will solve the problem and get rid of all those unwanted and stressful power anxieties.

The only problem with portable chargers is that you need to bring the correct cable(s) with you as well, so if you have several different devices, you might need several different cables. The iWALK PowerSquid Portable Charger solves that problem as well as it has three built-in cables so charging your iPhone, Android phone, tablet, wireless earbuds, headphones etc. shouldn’t be a problem (you can even plug in your own USB cable).

The iWALK PowerSquid Portable Charger is a light and compact 9000mAh 18w portable fast charger / power bank. A travel friendly device as it can charge iPhone and Android phones (and other devices) with its built-in Lightning cable, USB-C and Micro-USB cables. It holds enough power to fully charge an iPhone 14 1.8 times or a Samsung Z Flip4 1.5 times. It even features an LED display to let you know how much power remains in it and it also has a cool trickle-charge mode for low-power accessories such as Bluetooth headsets, bands, and watches. And it is even available in three different colour options: Black, White or Pink.

The most noticeable thing about this compact power bank must be the name, PowerSquid. It is an unforgettable name. With the three permanently attached cables that tidy nicely away into the body of the charger (one on each side and one on the rear), I suppose you could say it looks a bit like a squid with the cables are out and hanging down.

The iWALK PowerSquid is a very compact device, only very slightly larger than a bank card, measuring approx. 5.5cm(W) x 10cm(L) x 3cm(D). It is also quite lightweight. It is universally compatible with its 3 built-in cables to charge a variety of device and even has a USB-A output port so that you can plug in your own USB cable and charge other devices that use a non-standard connection. With a battery capacity of 9000mAh and a power output of 18w it will fast charge your phone (if your phone supports fast charging) giving between 1+ to 3 full charges (depending on your phone) and can charge a Samsung S22 up to 50% in just 30 minutes. With 3 attached cables, you can easily charge 3 different devices at once, although charging will be slower on the devices and obviously you might not get all 3 devices fully charged from the 9000mAh battery (depending on the devices).

Whilst the PowerSquid is excellent at charging out devices, it does need to be charged and can’t do this on its own. To fully charge the PowerSquid only takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. It doesn’t come with a wall plug so you will need your own, but everybody has loads around the house, but it does have a USB-C to USB-C charging cable. Just plug one end of the cable into the base of the PowerSquid and the other end into the plug and it will start to charge (the numbers on the display will flash to indicate charging and at what level the power is). It also has pass-through technology, meaning that you can charge your phone while the PowerSquid is being charged (priority charging given to charging the phone).

The PowerSquid also features a digital display so that you are always aware of how much power is left in it and you know when you need to recharge it (just press the power button to display power status).

You can also put the PowerSquid into a trickle-mode, recommended for low-power accessory devices such as Bluetooth headsets, bands, and watches, just by pressing and holding the power button for 3 seconds (you will see on the display when it is in that mode as a green charging symbol flashes on the display).

Overall, the iWALK PowerSquid is an excellent compact portable charger. It has enough power to give your phone at least one complete charge and has attached cables to charge most devices, no more hunting around for the correct cable.

The cables are neatly tidied away into the body of the PowerSquid. The Lightning cable and the Micro-USB cable are on the sides and are very easy to remove and put back in, the USB-C cable is on the rear and is a bit more difficult to remove but easy to put back in – all three cable just pull out and push back in. Now for something that some may find as a negative, and this all depends on how you use the devices – the cables are quite short, measuring 8-9cm. I personally think that they are a good length for the way I use it, as emergency charging. I use the USB-C most and find it is a good length to plug in my phone whilst being able to hold both in one hand and still use the phone without trailing cables. Others may find the cable too short depending on their needs, I don’t. But if you do require a longer cable, you can always plug in a USB-A cable (although that then means carrying another cable around with you).

It is perfect for keeping in your bag, or for the kids to keep in their schoolbag so they have no excuse for not calling home, for when the unthinkable happens and you run out of phone battery at the most inopportune moment. A great little power bank for emergency charging. It allows you to enjoy the outdoors, taking pictures and phone calls, updating your socials and paying for your coffee without having to worry about your battery dying.

It is even safe to take with you onboard an airplane (there are rules regarding travelling with batteries, that includes power banks – you can find out more here), so a great little travel accessory too!

Running out of battery power on your phone when out and about can be a nightmare, especially as we use our phones for more than just calls – we even use then to pay for things in shops! But with the iWALK PowerSquid you don’t need to worry about your phone battery, and you will always have the correct charging cable as 3 different types are attached.

The iWALK PowerSquid portable charger is solidly constructed, charges my phone fast and I don’t have to worry about looking for cables. An excellent little power bank for keeping in my bag for when the inevitable happens and my phone battery is running out.
